After Kanye West unveiled the new video for his single “Love Lockdown” on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Tuesday (October 7), he admitted that the clip’s modern look was inspired by a chainsaw-wielding maniac.
“On this album, I kind of embody Patrick Bateman from ‘American Psycho,’ ” he joked on the show, adding, “You know at the end of the movie [that] he didn’t really kill anyone. [I just liked] the clean aesthetic and the way he was all about labels. I wanted to express all of that in the video.”
The rapper, who sings on the single, explained that he was ready to try a different direction on the upcoming album 808s and Heartbreak, which was recently slated for a November 25 release. “I had all these ideas and I just needed to get it out as an artistic vision,” he said. “I don’t have a rapper’s name, [but] I have really good taste and anyone who likes it probably has really good taste too.”

“I think that they’re all really good kids and that they’re definitely our next generation of kids and they’re all really good, so I think that’s awesome,” Hilton added.

The illness that forced Janet Jackson to miss concerts in Montreal, Boston and Philadelphia last week still appears to be plaguing the singer, who announced the postponement of three more shows over the weekend.
According to The Associated Press, Jackson’s publicist sent out an e-mail late Saturday stating that the singer was postponing that night’s show in Greensboro, North Carolina, as well as a gig in Atlanta on Sunday and one in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Tuesday.

Music Beau Dozier: Paris Hilton is totally running for fake president, and she totally wants your fake vote. Totally.
That’s the message in a video posted early Wednesday (October 8) on FunnyOrDie.com, which features Hilton seeking political advice from “one of our greatest fake presidents,” Martin Sheen, who played president Josiah Bartlett on NBC’s long-running White House drama “The West Wing.”
In the clip, which takes place in the kitchen during “a pre-party for the party before the afterparty,” Hilton and Sheen discuss such pressing fake issues as “FoPo” (or “foreign policy,” for those of you who don’t speak Paris-ese) and the economy, with P stating that she favors a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq and lowering interest rates to bail out homeowners.

Gossip Girl: Being Nate Archibald
Crawford dons prep school blazers and khakis to play conflicted hunk Nate Archibald in Gossip Girl, The CW’s adaptation of the juicy novels by Cecily von Ziegesar. The teen drama follows a group of rich New York City Upper East Siders. “I’m proud to be part of a show that’s kind of redefining what it means to be a hit show with today’s younger generation that is very media-savvy,” Crawford (pictured with onscreen girlfriend Leighton Meester) tells the Los Angeles Times. The series costars Blake Lively (Serena), Penn Badgley (Dan), Ed Westwick (Chuck) and Taylor Momsen (Jenny).

Not to be outdone, Pink’s run through her new single, “So What,” was all platinum-blond hair and balls of fire. Starting out on a tenement stoop and wearing an electric-blue trench coat, the singer slid down a white rope to the ground and proceeded to wreck the set � literally. In order, she: smashed a mirror, tossed a guy down some subway steps, smashed a window and made a building blow up, caused oil drums to explode as she walked down the street with her girls, and capped it off by stripping down into a barely there black leotard cut down to … there.
And while the Jonas Brothers marked their first VMA performance by keeping their clothes on, they got things equally sweaty. Performing on a New York City set on the backlot of the Paramount studios, they started off plucking away at their new ballad, “Lovebug,” on a set of brownstone steps. Halfway in, the steps gave way to a stage as hundreds of screaming girls surrounded them and hung from fake windows as the song exploded into a power-pop rocker.
Among the other awards handed out over the course of the evening was Best Dancing in a Video to the Pussycat Dolls for “When I Grow Up.”

Following a perceived slight from the “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” co-star, Twilighters are anything but amused.
“The host (who was that?) was really annoying, especially when he cut off Rob!” a furious fan calling herself “Chelsea” posted on the MTV Movies Blog. “He’s the star of ‘Twilight,’ you think he could have said his line without being interrupted.”

About Beau Dozier music: Travis Barker said he’s “thankful to be alive” after the plane crash in Columbia, South Carolina, last month that killed four people and seriously injured him and DJ AM. The former Blink-182 drummer opens up about the accident in the new issue of Us Weekly.
“I hate planes,” he said. “My biggest fear ever is to be involved in a plane crash, so when that happened … well, I’m just thankful to be alive! I’m just grateful to be here at all.” Barker then choked up a bit, the mag said.
Barker left a hospital in Georgia last week and returned to Los Angeles via bus with his father and his ex-wife, Shanna Moakler. Just days before, DJ AM had been released from the hospital and is currently recovering at home. The crash killed Barker’s assistant, Chris Baker, and his bodyguard, Charles Still, as well as the plane’s two crew members.
Barker is currently at the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles, where he is receiving treatment for second- and third-degree burns.

Seven days after Hurricane Ike struck Texas on September 13, I finally got my power turned back on. I live in Houston, a big city that didn’t even take the brunt of the storm. But for a lot of the folks living in smaller communities along the Gulf Coast, the impact of Ike was much, much worse. I wanted to show MTV News what it was like for people living in Galveston, in Beaumont, in Orange or in Port Arthur, which is where I’m from. It’s easy to bring the cameras one day after the storm, two days after the storm. But what about a week after the storm? Two weeks? Some people are just getting back home, just starting to deal with the reality of what’s happened. And that’s what I wanted to show everyone: what it’s like when the cameras leave, and these people in these smaller communities are left to deal with the devastation.
Our first day was in Beaumont. It’s part of the Golden Triangle � Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange. It’s pretty much one place; when people in Orange get affected, people in Beaumont and Port Arthur feel it. A lot of the people in those towns work in the refineries, which is one of the main industries in the Golden Triangle. This whole area, the people there, they were some of UGK’s first supporters. These are the first places we did shows, first places we sold music. So it was really important for me to come down here and make sure people were OK. It’s not about if I know them personally � I know their struggle. We all went through the same thing. If you come from this area, everybody has pretty much lived the same way of life.
When we visited Beaumont, it was 10 days out from when the storm hit, and people were just getting back home. We went to the Beaumont Athletic Complex where the buses full of evacuees were dropping people back from all over Texas � San Antonio, Austin, Dallas and smaller places like Tyler, Sunrise, even northern Louisiana. They had to get their stuff off that main bus and then hop on a smaller bus that would take them to their neighborhood. For some people, this was the second time in a month they had to evacuate � Hurricane Gustav was expected to hit these cities too. Most of the people we met were still somewhat in a state of shock from it all. They didn’t really know the extent of the damage to their homes. They hadn’t seen their houses, didn’t know about their cars or whether their place of employment was still standing. Can you imagine if your job wasn’t there when you got back? You don’t have money to start over, and you don’t have a job to go back to so you can make money to start over. It can really throw you off, to say the least.

Ciara also invited some fresh faces aboard the Fantasy Ride. “I worked with Danja [and] a lot of new producers, too, which I’m really excited about,” she said. “There’s nothing like new, fresh talent. This album has opened up a little bit with different vibes and energies. I wanted to bring in different writers. I’m excited.”

Though they went home empty-handed, losing out to Linkin Park’s “Shadow of the Day” for the Best Rock Video crown, Paramore rocked the stage of Los Angeles’ Whisky a Go Go with a bloody-knuckles version of their hit “Misery Business” � though, as it turns out, Brand was a bit confused, as the band was actually in the house in front of the VMA crowd.
